Scouts’ lesson for Big Society

I WOULD like to praise the scout movement and congratulate those who devote so much of their time to the youth of our country.

We went to a scout swimming gala at Chapeltown baths, where our grandchildren were taking part and enjoyed a lovely afternoon. There were many senior scouts who had organised the event - no mean feat - and kept order with the many boys and girls.

The whole of their Sunday had been given over to one event and clearly many of these leaders had been involved for years.

Our grandchildren benefit so much from their membership of scouting. One of them goes to the Jamboree in Sweden soon.

The Government could learn much about the Big Society from this movement and how people are involved without praise and glory all over the country.
