Community-minded scouts spruced up an area of Sheffield – and even found a dumped surfboard.
More than 40 volunteers turned up to transform the Trans Pennine Trail Sustrans route between Barnsley Road and Ecclesfield Road in Shiregreen.
Members of the 231st Shiregreen Scout Troop and Don District Explorer scouts cleared a mile-long stretch of path restoring it to a pleasant green space – and even found a dumped surfboard as they cleared the route.
The trail is a long-distance bridleway which crosses the Pennines, connecting Hornsey to Southport.
The routes through Sheffield form 45 miles of cycle and walking routes.
Tim Hess, Sustrans volunteer ranger coordinator, said: “The route through Shiregreen is often forgotten and neglected.
“The green space is in the centre of a residential area and is often full of rubbish.”
The groups recently cleared fly-tipping and litter in Beeley Wood as part of the Scout Association’s community week.
