Scientist warns on shrinking ice

A SCIENTIST from The University of Sheffield says Greenland’s shrinking ice sheets could result in higher than predicted global rises in sea levels by the year 2100.

Dr Edward Hanna is just back from an expedition to Greenland to study climate station data and changes as part of a worldwide project.

Dr Hanna said: “Climate change in Greenland has been rapid recently, with several record warm summers.

“By better understanding the ice mass response to climatic fluctuations over the past few decades, we can help refine predictions of how the ice sheet is likely to respond to future climate change.”
