School is top of the class for careers

Ecclesfield School in Sheffield is top of the class for helping its students choose and embark on their careers.

It has received the gold award for excellence in careers support, which is only awarded to schools in Sheffield which prove they have met the high standard expected.

Sheffield Futures’ Careers Coordinator, Dawn Hodgkinson, who presented the award, said: “Ecclesfield School has worked hard to achieve the ‘Sheffield Standard’ and they have raised the standard for their students.

“We offer the standard in bite-sized chunks providing a step-by-step level to achievement with bronze, silver and gold. It encourages improvement in careers standards and motivates schools and colleges to go for the next level up. “Schools and colleges should aspire to this as it provides the basis for all students making a successful transition into the world beyond school.”

Ecclesfield School’ careers adviser, Lesley Cassell, said: “Schools have a critical role to play in preparing pupils for the next stage of their education or training and beyond.

“Careers education and pupil support is a well established part of the curriculum at Ecclesfield School in Sheffield.

“We are very proud of our recent gold standard award, one of the highest accolades a school can achieve.”
