School show raises £700

Sharrow Primary School’s performance of the children’s classic Goldilocks and the Three Bears was acted out by nursery pupils, all aged two to four, before parents and staff then dressed up and took to the stage.

Nursery teacher Zubida Khatoon said: “We’ve never performed a play before in the nursery - but I was determined to put one on.

“We thought it would be a nice way to raise some money for charity and, as most of our parents use Sheffield Children’s Hospital, we chose to support The Children’s Hospital Charity.

“At first the parents thought I was joking when I asked them to perform too. But they all got stuck in and the children absolutely loved it. Their parents are their role models so it made the whole thing really special for them.

“Last year we raised £255 and this year I wanted to double that. I was so proud that the parents and children managed to raise £705. I was also impressed with how much the children took on board about the charity aspect. They were really happy to raise funds for other children.”

The children spent half a term learning the story of Goldilocks and rehearsing their roles. As well as performing the play they also made bear hats and learned a Goldilocks-themed song and dance.

Charity fundraising assistant Caitlin Hallatt, said: “We love how creative Sharrow Primary School have been with their fundraising. The money that they’ve raised will help us to make a whole host of improvements to our hospital’s environment, helping to match the world-class care given at Sheffield Children’s Hospital to world-class facilities.”
