TOUGHER parking restrictions are set to be imposed around a Sheffield primary school in a bid to improve road safety for pupils.
Sheffield Council’s cabinet highways committee will today decide whether to approve double yellow lines, single yellow lines and school keep clear markings on Whiteways Road, close to Whiteways Primary in Grimesthorpe.
The school is trying to encourage more youngsters to walk to school and shift dependency away from the family car.
Work to improve safety on the road began in 2003 when two children were injured while trying to cross between parked vehicles.
A scheme to narrow the road at the school entrance has reduced accidents, but traffic congestion in the area remains and has increased over the subsequent years.
One side of Whiteways Road is usually completely parked up at the school start and finishing time.
