School parking restrictions axe

Campaigners in a Sheffield suburb have claimed victory after Sheffield Council dropped a proposal to remove parking spaces on a road in the neighbourhood.

Officers originally recommended waiting restrictions on Stannington Road, Stannington, to coincide with the opening of the new Forge Valley Community School.

But the proposal would have removed the ability to park on both sides of Stannington Road, which led to concerns among local residents, who were worried about the lack of parking spaces.

Now, following a petition by local residents and concern from Lib Dem councillors, the proposal have been dropped after highways officers revealed the growth in traffic expected with the new school had not happened - with most pupils walking to school.
