More than one in five people in Yorkshire and the Humber have been ripped off by a letting agent, new research from Shelter reveals today.

In a YouGov poll commissioned by the housing charity, 22 per cent of people in Yorkshire and the Humber - equivalent to over 900,000 people - said they had been charged unfair fees by letting agents.

Anecdotal evidence included people charged £100 each time they viewed a property, renters charged up to £540 for non-refundable ‘admin fees’, and letting agents double-charging for the same service to landlords and tenants.
