A MOTORIST has been banned from driving for 40 months after ploughing into a hedge while more than double the drink-drive limit.

Daniel Ellis, of Mont Walk, Wombwell, spun his Peugeot 206 into the hedge outside the Half Moon pub at Whitwell, near Worksop

The collision took place on Saturday, July 28, at about 9.45pm.

Police were called and they saw Ellis had injuries and dried blood down the right side of his body and right arm.

The 26-year-old, an unemployed scaffolder, admitted drink-driving - his second conviction for this offence in four years - during a hearing at Chesterfield Magistrates’ Court, where he was also fined £125 and ordered to pay £85 costs.

Ellis will have his ban reduced to 30 months if he passes a rehabilitation course.

Ellis was with his brother at the time of the collision, the court heard, and both men needed medical treatment.
