ECCLESFIELD Parish Council has written to the Director General of the BBC appealing to the corporation not to impose the proposed 16 per cent budget cutbacks for Radio Sheffield.

Coun Alan Hooper told a meeting that the proposed cutbacks were unacceptable stating that when a joint Yorkshire BBC radio stations afternoon programme was trialled for three months earlier this year, it had a ‘distinct West Yorkshire bias’.

The corporation is proposing to scale back local radio programming and cut jobs.
