Santa’s festive duty to light up South Yorkshire town

Santa will light up a South Yorkshire town when he attends its Christmas lights switch-on event.

A Christmas market will kick off Saturday’s festivities in Penistone at 10am, with food stalls and a carol concert, before Santa turns on the lights at 4pm.

Helpers from Penistone Round Table, are organising the annual switch-on outside St John’s Church.

Round Tabler Ian Teesdale said: “It’s always such a delight to see the Market Barn festooned in all its Christmas glory.

“Look out for a few ‘characters in costumes’ leading the procession from the Market Barn to the church for the switch-on.”

Children can visit Santa’s Grotto, in Hacketts Florists, from noon to 3pm and 5pm to 6.30pm by booking in advance on 01226 762241.
