The Children’s Hospital’s charity day will involve groups and businesses across the city, allowing staff to enjoy afternoon tea while raising vital funds for the Make It Better appeal.

Among those taking part are over 120 members from the Simons’ construction team, which is currently building the new hospital wing.

Simons’ employees will be selling cakes across the site and Sam the dog has been doing her bit to make sure the event is on the top of everybody’s priority list, posing for photos with the team to remind them to get their aprons on ahead of tomorrow’s bake sale.

Project manager Dave Johnson will be one of the day’s star bakers and has already kick-started the company’s fundraising by selling practice batches of his legendary brownies.

Site engineer Paul Dobson, who owns Sam, said: “We’re taking part in the sale to make a difference for all the children, parents and staff at the hospital.

“With over 120 workers on site tomorrow, I don’t think we’re going to have any problems getting our cakes sold.

“Sam’s been making herself useful, greeting the daily tour party of hospital staff who come to have a look at the new wing, and carrying Bake It Better Day flyers around to all the team as a reminder to get baking.

She’s also very good at having doggy naps and dreaming of cupcakes which are her favourite. “We use old fashioned paper cases when we make them and sometimes she even eats those as well!”
