Sadness as popular Sheffield city centre restaurant and take away closes down

A popular restaurant and takeout in Sheffield has ceased trading amid financial difficulties.

Nourish, which served healthy food to go, has closed both sites on Pinstone Street in Sheffield city centre and Ecclesall Road.

Owners cited a 'sustained period of poor trading' for the closures. The brand has been trading for over five years and officially closed its doors on Wednesday.

A 'funded recovery plan' was said to be in place for the business through 'external lenders' but these lenders notified the business on Wednesday they were 'unable to meet their commitments, which left the owners with no choice but to close.

Nourish was know for operating their 'Pay it Forward Tree' scheme which offers customers to buy food and drink for people on the streets for them to collect later.

Butthe business hit the headlines for calling out some people sleeping rough who were 'abusing and assaulting staff' when free food and drink wasn't available.

They said workers were swore at and even spat at by people coming in to collect pre-paid food and drink.

In a statement on their Facebook page, they said: "Nourish, will cease trading. A sustained period of poor trading results at both Pinstone Street and Ecclesall Road restaurants has led to the closure of both outlets.

"We thank our staff for their passion, effort and commitment, not least through the past few months which included a small refurbishment of Pinstone Street restaurant, the overhaul of our menu and operations.

"We would like to thank all of those who have supported us on this journey over the past five years. As of February 28th, Nourish, Sheffield’s first healthy fast food restaurant will cease trading."

Many supporters of the chain were sad to see it go.

Amy Carter said: "What a loss to our city centre. Fantastic healthy food and service. We will be sad to see you go."
