Sacked Rotherham United boss Neil Redfearn now favourite for Barnsley job

His seat in the manager's office at Rotherham United may still be warm but Neil Redfearn has already been installed as favourite for the vacant Barnsley post.

Redfearn was sacked by the Millers on Monday after just 123 days in charge.

Defeats to relegation rivals Charlton Athletic and Bolton Wanderers in the last two matches proved costly for the 50-year-old.

But he may not be out of a job for long, if the betting market is to be believed.

Mere minutes after his sacking was announced, Redfearn became the even money favourite to fill the vacancy at Oakwell.

Lee Johnson left Barnsley on Saturday to take over at Bristol City.

It is not too much of a stretch for the bookies to make Redfearn the favourite, even without any flurries of betting activity following his Rotherham departure.

Redfearn is a legend at Oakwell, playing a vital role in their promotion to the Premier League during his seven year spell.

With Barnsley's hierarchy putting an increased focus on bringing through youth, Redfearn could prove to be an attractive option.

The latest odds on an Oakwell return for Redfearn put him slightly ahead of current joint caretaker bosses Paul Heckingbottom and Tommy Wright who are 6/4 and 4/1 respectively.

Heckingbottom and Wright oversaw the Reds' 3-0 win over Bury on Sunday.

Former Swindon Town boss Mark Cooper has drifted out to 12/1.
