S6 Foodbank hosts night of entertainment to raise funds

S6 Foodbank is hosting a night of entertainment, to help raise funds to grow their current services.

Following increasing costs, and growing need, the Trussell Trust foodbank has announced a fundraiser for April 8, at Crookes Social Club.

S6 Foodbank manager Chris Hardy said: “A study recently reported that around 25 per cent of children in Sheffield are living in poverty. The S6 foodbank is responding to this crisis by providing support and meals to families in need.

“Costs are increasing as we are being asked for more varied items than the food than our lists, such as toiletries, nappies and sanitary products, plus items were always running out of like fruit juice and sugar.

“We have over 140 front line workers supporting the people they refer to us by filling out a referral voucher and sending them down to our premises, where we fill out a unique shopping list to make sure the person or family gets what they need.

“We have over one tonne of food donated each week, mainly donations from the public, but also have the support of busineses like Tesco, Morrisons and Kelloggs.

“We know child poverty is an issue and respond by being here for the amazing services in Sheffield to use us as a resource. However with rising costs and demand for the service constantly increasing, the foodbank has now reached out to local bands and businesses to support us through a fundraising concert. We are grateful to one of our valued volunteers, who runs a local radio show on Sheffield Live, andwho has brought together the brilliant bands from the local community to help us support those in most need.”

The fundaraiser will kick off at 7.30pm. Visit www.wegottickets.com for tickets.
