Russian fans pose with stolen Sheffield Wednesday flag as Euro 2016 violence continues in France

Russian football thugs who stole a Sheffield Wednesday flag as trouble continues to flare in France during Euro 2016 have posted a photo of their "trophy" online.

The black-shirted supporters shared the picture of the upside down Owls flag - along with a Birmingham City flag and an Albanian national flag on Twitter.

Displaying flags upside down is seen as a great insult to some countries and people. It is not clear where the photo was taken but the pictures shows three fans, seemingly at night, crouched before their own St Petersburg Aliens flag - a notorious group of Spartak Moscow following "Ultras" who hail from the city.

It comes after clashes between England, France and Russia fans before and after Saturday's 1-1 draw between the two sides in Marseilles on Saturday and fresh violence on the streets of northern city Lille last night.

At least 36 people have been arrested following the clashes in Lille - where riot police fired tear gas and charged at hundreds of England fans, gathering in the city ahead of this afternoon's Battle of Britain game with Wales in nearby Lens.

Uefa this week threatened to disqualify England if there was any more violence while Russia also face being thrown out after being handed a suspended disqualification.

Russian and Slovakian supporters also gathered in Lille last night following their game at the city's Stade Pierre-Mauroy and there were fresh scuffles between fans of the two nations.

French authorities said those arrested on Wednesday included six Russians involved in the violence in Marseille.

Six England fans, aged 20 to 41, have received jail sentences ranging from one to three months in relation to disorder surrounding the England-Russia game, including psychiatric nurse Ian Hepworth from SheffieldHundreds of supporters from the region are in France for Euro 2016 and on Saturday, pictures emerged of a flag emblazoned with the wording "Donny Owls" was seen around the globe as Russian fans charged at England supporters inside the stadium in Marseilles.
