RUNNERS raised hundreds of pounds by taking part in a six-mile jog around a South Yorkshire park.

The ‘10,000 steps’ event was organised by Barnsley Rockley Rotary Club and took place in the town’s Locke Park.

Retired Barnsley Council chief executive and former rotary club president, Philip Thompson, who helped organise the run, said: “We raised £522.16. This was an excellent result considering we put the event together on the spur of the moment.”

The run was held in support of the Prostate Cancer Charity’s 10,000 Challenge, to commemorate 10,000 men who died from the cancer in Britain last year.
