Thousands of runners will be pounding Sheffield’s streets on Sunday when an annual 10k race returns.
Around 5,000 entrants are expected for the Great Yorkshire Run, which starts and finishes on Arundel Gate, following a route out of the city centre past Hillsborough Stadium and returning along Penistone Road.
The race is now in its ninth year, and as well as the main run there are 1.5k and 2.5k categories for children and an afternoon of music in the Peace Gardens. John Mayock from organisers The Great Run Company said: “The Peace Gardens is a stone’s throw from the finish line and we expect thousands of runners and spectators to come and take in the atmosphere.”
Online entries are now closed, but people can still sign up at the Winter Garden on Saturday between midday and 5pm. Facilities open at the indoor garden at 8.30am on Sunday and the race begins at 10am.
