A runaway car has crashed in Barnsley town centre - injuring a pedestrian and crashing onto another car.

South Yorkshire Police said the car involved in the Shambles Street collision - a silver Hyundai estate - was 'unoccupied' at the time.

Emergency services were alerted at 12.15pm.

A police spokesman said: "It is reported that a silver Hyundai estate, believed to be unoccupied at the time, was involved in a collision with a green Peugeot 406 and a female pedestrian.

"At this time, two people are believed to be injured but the level of injury is not known."
