• FORMER Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock is the red hot favourite to take over at Crystal Palace after the club parted company with Peter Taylor. Warnock has been desperate to return to football since leaving Bramall Lane, and, if the money is right, would not refuse a job at Selhurst Park.

Warnock is good friends with Palace chairman Simon Jordan and recently helped him celebrate his 40th birthday.

• THE SUN - Michael Owen has told his Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce: Don't tell me when I can play for England.

• A FOOTBALL rumours website says that Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Nigerian under 17 international Macualey Chrisantus from FC Abuja. Barcelona were close to signing him after but they only put up 3 million rather than 5.5 million which Arsenal have agreed with the club.

• A FOOTBALL rumours website says that Iain Turner is set to sign for Sheffield Wednesday from Everton on loan until January, when he will sign for them permanently on a four-and-a-half year contract.

The same posting also reports that the Owls will sign Rasiak, Johnson and Kavanagh on permanent along with others in January.

• DAILY MIRROR - Michael Owen has revealed he will defy Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce and play in BOTH England's Euro 2008 qualifiers.

• DAILY MIRROR - Martin Jol's hopes of walking out on Spurs and straight into the Ajax hot-seat were destroyed last night as the Amsterdam club replaced Chelsea-bound Henk Ten Cate with their youth team coach.

• THE GUARDIAN - Martin Jol officially became a target for Ajax last night after their coach, Henk ten Cate, walked out on the club to join Avram Grant's coaching team at Chelsea.
