Rugby league: London calling and Eagles need a lift
Sheffield Eagles will have to overturn what is fast becoming a London Broncos dominated fixture if they are to spring a shock tomorrow afternoon.
The Eagles have found themselves on the end of two heavy defeats against Andrew Henderson’s side already this season – and the form guide suggests Mark Aston’s side will have to produce something special to avoid a third.
Aston though will take comfort from his side’s success against the so-called big hitters in the Kingstone Press Championship this season, with victories over Halifax, Bradford and Featherstone, plus encouraging displays against Leigh and the Bulls in the return fixture at Bawtry Road.
The Eagles have also tasted success against the Broncos after last season’s 14-22 victory, although a vast number of prominent members have since left the club.
“This is going to be a massive challenge because London have cemented second place and justifiably so,” Aston said.
“They have been outstanding this season and credit to Hendo who has done a great job with them.
“We have beaten Featherstone, we have beaten Bradford. We should have really beaten Leigh at their place too. London have given us a couple of tough games, and I have been disappointed with the performances in both games against them.
“There is a point to prove there for me. Can we stand up against teams right at the top end? I think we know we can, but the question is, can we beat them?”
