Rugby League: Doncaster Toll Bar juniors win league title

The Prospect Road youngsters won 13 out of 17 games to take the title - much to the delight of chairman Ray Green.

“The bulk of the team have been together since they started in the under 9s in 2011, while a few players have come and gone,” said Ray. “The squad has steadily increased in numbers.

“This has given the coaching team a chance to work on playing skills and team awareness.

“The team have had the benefit of being coached by Dons player Peter Green and he is well assisted by Dave Aldridge and Mick Male and a very good team of committed parents.

“They have performed consistently all season in the league winning 13, drawing two, with two defeats, scoring 528 points in the process.

“The team are now looking forward to playing in the higher division next season,” he added.

“The progress of the team mirrors the continued progress and improvement of Toll Bar club which includes new floodlights to go with the pitches and clubhouse.”

Next year the club will be running teams at under 7, 8, 12, 13, 16 and open age.

n Doncaster Toll Bar ARLFC will host a free half term rugby camp from Monday, October 30 to Saturday, November 4 (10am-2pm each day).

The event is for children aged from two up to 15. Refreshments will be included throughout.

It will close with a tag rugby tournament on November 4.
