The cat was found in an alleyway opposite the shops on Beckett Road on Thursday morning.

RSPCA Inspector Tamsin Drysdale said: “The person who found the cat said she had a skewer through her body and was laying on the top of a disposable barbecue.

“She was so badly burned it isn’t possible to be sure what colour her fur was.

“We don’t know whether this happened while the cat was alive or dead, but I suspect, and very much hope, it was the latter.

“The cat was microchipped and after a couple of days of trying I have now been able to speak to the person whose details were registered. They said that they rehomed the cat and her kittens two years ago but they couldn’t tell me who to.”

The alleyway the cat was found in is directly opposite 182 Beckett Road. The cat was a female and there was no name on the chip.

“If anyone has any information at all that might help me to find out what happened here please call the RSPCA inspector appeal line on 0300 123 8018,” said Tamsin.

“Did you see something? Did you hear something? Do you know who the cat might have belonged to? Someone out there could be looking for and missing this cat and I am very keen to find her current owner.”

Diane Powney discovered the horrific scene while walking her dogs in Wheatley – and has been suffering nightmares since finding the cat’s impaled and badly burned body in an alleyway near her home.

Said Mrs Powney: “I can’t stop thinking about the poor little animal and what happened to it.

“The people who did it must be sick in the head. They are just twisted, vile psychopaths. Who in their right mind can think of doing something like that?

“It just defies belief.”

She said the cat had been impaled on a barbecue skewer, which had been inserted into its anus and had then had its fur burnt off after being roasted on a disposable barbecue.

“It was absolutely horrific,” she said. “The look on its poor little face suggested it must have been tortured and died in agony.

“All of the fur was burnt away and it had been left on top of one of those metal tray barbecues.

“I don’t know if it was already dead when they put it on the barbecue, but my guess is that if you can do something as evil as that, then it probably was still alive.

“The poor little thing must have been absolutely terrified. The people who did it need finding and quick.

“If they can torture a cat like this, then next they will be going around doing it to people too. They are not wired up right.”
