Royal British Legion branch sends birthday wishes to Dame Vera Lynn

The Frecheville Branch of The Royal British Legion has sent a card to 'the Forces Sweetheart' for her birthday on Monday.

Chairman Pat Davey said: "We have sent her a card to congratulate her on a happy birthday and to thank her for all she did for this country and our boys in Burma during World War Two."

"Dame Vera optimises everything that was good about Britain at that time. She kept our spirits up.

"There was Winston Churchill and our Vera and to top it all she very bravely volunteered to go into the jungles of Burma to sing and take messages from home."
