Royal break in tradition on the cards '¦Â Sheffield Wednesday fan's column

'A few strong words.' That's all it took for the players to actively participate in this season's campaign.

According to Ash Baker after the Brentford match they were stern words.

Now I don't imagine Jos Luhukay replicated the famous changing room scene between Neil Warnock, Chris Morgan and Phil Jagielka but whatever his 'strong words' were it got the most out of the players last week. Two wins, six points and a sense that we're going in the right direction.

The Wolves' game was as expected. Lots of changes on both sides but we faced a Wolves side who have Premier League quality in the depths of their squad. We did put in a strong performance though and that is exactly what the Manager is after. It's what we all crave.

It would have been economically better for us to stay in the Carabao Cup for a little longer. As the well known supermarket says '˜Every Little Helps,' this season.

We move onto Reading, a club like us who unexpectedly climbed the mountain of the play-offs only to tumble below base camp last season. This year they are without a win, have drawn two and lost three of their matches.

In 13 away fixtures at Reading we have only won four times. Post 1980 we've only won there once in February 2014; a Chris Maguire penalty and a Benik Afobe clincher. Liam Palmer was in the team that day. A survivor from a different era.

The win before that was 21st December 1979; the day after my 1st birthday.

It's fair to say we don't travel away to Reading well, especially if you were there on the days we lost 5-0 and 6-0.

I hate to jinx us but I've got a feeling we might break the '˜once every 34 years,' win ratio this weekend. Reading are at a low ebb and we have to start being more ruthless with teams in this position. It hasn't been our forte over previous seasons, beating teams in the lower half of the table but maybe, just maybe the 'strong words,' will continue to resonate.
