A PENNINE market town’s new leisure centre has been accused of poaching groups from the local community centre.

The accusation has been made against the new leisure centre in the former Penistone drill hall which recently re-opened and is run by local volunteers after Barnsley Council closed the former centre saying it could not afford to keep it open.

But Coun Steve Marsh told Penistone Town Council the new leisure centre had ‘poached’ three groups from the community centre which is run by the town council.

Coun Andrew Millner said: “They are finding their feet and I think it will settle down. They are trying to target their customers and it would be nice to see both flourishing”.
