Roundabout safety move

TRAFFIC lights should be installed at Rotherham's notorious B&Q roundabout by the end of next year, it was revealed today.

The College Road roundabout has been branded dangerous ever since it was built and has been the scene of numerous accidents - many of them due to the speed of vehicles.

Drivers say the problem has got even worse because of the rapid build-up of traffic using Rotherham’s roads.

Motorists are expected to welcome the move, part of a number of major improvements being planned for some of the town’s most notorious traffic blackspots, including the St Ann’s roundabout where lights will also be installed.

Other improvements will include traffic signals at the entrance to and from Rotherham’s Centenary Way multi-storey car park, more CCTV cameras in areas where traffic congestion is a problem, and more variable message signs on approach roads into the town.
