A BUDDING JK Rowling has penned her first novel – writing the fantasy book while her husband was away working for the RAF.
Evette Hodgson, 28, decided to ‘have a go’ at being an author as partner Andy, a senior air craftsman, spent time away from home on detachments with the RAF at Brize Norton.
The former Rotherham couple moved from Wickersley to Oxfordshire as part of his role with the force as a survival equipment fitter, specialising in parachute engineering.
And Evette has now self-published the book she wrote to keep herself busy online for a good cause, to raise cash for military charity Help the Heroes.
Evette, who works with excluded young people, said: “We are down in Oxfordshire and all our family and friends are still in Rotherham, so I spend quite a lot of time on my own and thought why not give writing a book a go?
“It is something I have always wanted to do.
“The book is a fantasy, it’s all about magic and witches with an underlying love story.
“I’d describe it as a mixture of Harry Potter and Twilight really.
“Originally I aimed it at teenagers and people in their early 20s, but people much older than that have been reading it.
“I’ve had some great feedback.”
Former Rotherham youth offending service worker Evette is already penning a sequel to Amber Secrets – which will also boost the coffers of the Stroke Association as her dad suffered with a stroke.
In future, she hopes it may even lead to bestseller success.
She said: “I know my book is nothing like Fifty Shades of Grey, but the author of that started by self publishing.
“That’s another reason why I just thought I would give it a go and see what happened.”
Amber Secrets can be bought for E-readers online on Amazon – 10p from every sale goes to charity.
