Rotherham United's unwanted tag as the only team in top four divisions not to take an away point

The Millers' record on the road makes nasty reading this season as they have lost all six games and scored only two goals.

They are the only team in the top four divisions of English football not to take an away point so far while their longer-term away record in the Championship is even more worrying.

The Millers have now gone 31 games on their travels at this level without winning, encompassing three seasons and four different managers.

The 4-0 success at MK Dons way back in April 2016 under Neil Warnock was their last victory and there have been just three draws and 20 goals since.

Warne has some mitigation in the fact that the Millers are competing against teams with superior budgets, and therefore players, but his side have been in a number of games this season.

They should arguably have broken their duck at Wigan, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest had they shown a little more conviction.

The boss, who is perhaps scarred by the opening day hammering at Brentford, knows his side have to be at their best any time they take a point in this season, something they were not at Birmingham at the weekend.

Warne admits he does not yet have the answer why his side cannot get over the line, but insists it is nothing to do with the mind.

'You'll have to ask the lads, but it's not a mental hurdle for me,' Warne said.

'For us to get points on the road and at home we have to be at our best and collectively at Birmingham not enough of our players were not at our best.'

Rotherham's away form will be the difference between a comfortable mid-table season and a relegation battle as the 11 points they have taken from their six games at the AESSEAL New York Stadium is the eighth best in the division.

And Warne knows they have to start supplementing that impressive home record.

'It's massively important, getting points anywhere is massively important for us,' the boss admitted.

'Every game we play in we prepare them as well as we can to win.

'To have a successful season we need to pick up points away and at home.

'The lads have been excellent at home and the performances have been excellent away, it wasn't excellent at Birmingham and if it was I think we would have collected some points.'
