Rotherham United: Warne blasts Weimann over Vaulks tackle as Morris finally joins Millers

Vaulks was left prone on the turf last Saturday by a first-half challenge from Andi Weimann which earned the Wolves man a booking and provoked an incensed reaction from boss Warne.

The caretaker manager, who today welcomed Norwich City loan striker Carlton Morris to the Millers camp, shouted and gesticulated at Weimann before tangling with backroom staff who had lept from the Wolves dugout.

“I wasn’t best pleased because he straight-legged him,” said Warne after a 1-0 defeat left bottom club Rotherham 21 points from safety.

“He didn’t catch him fully, but that’s not the point. If he had caught him, that would have been the end of Will’s season.”

Right-back Vaulks received treatment after the tackle, which happened seconds before the break, and was able to carry on.

“I thought it was a straight red and then I had a flare-up with their bench because their assistant said he didn’t touch him,” Warne said.

“I told him to be a man about it and admit he (Weimann) hit him because he hit him. In fairness, their manager (Paul Lambert) calmed it all down.”

Rotherham travel to QPR on Saturday for their final fixture before the international break, with Warne promising to reward Jon Taylor’s positive attitude by naming the winger in his starting 11.

Taylor, the Millers record signing last summer, was dropped to the bench for the Wolves clash but impressed as second-half substitute.

“I thought Tayls was outstanding,” Warne said. “I can’t handle people who come on and sulk or people who come off and sulk. It’s not about that. I can’t play 25 of them. I can play 11.

“I thought when he went on he was a bright spark and that’s what you want, so he is nailed on to play in the next game.”

Another player likely to feature at Loftus Road is January signing Morris, who has finally linked up with Rotherham after recovering from a pulled hamstring.

Following the six-week wait, Warne joked last weekend: “I am not even sure he exists! I have spoken to him. I have texted him and told him where the hotel is. I am looking forward to having him.”
