The midfielder is back in South Yorkshire for a second successive season-long loan and, with his contract at Brighton expiring in the summer, a permanent stay at the AESSEAL New York Stadium seems a likely option.

But the 27-year-old is only focused on getting his new stint with the Millers up and running.

He exclusively told the Star: "It is just a loan for now, I can't really look too far beyond that, you don't really know what's around the corner in football.

"It was the same last year when I came.

"For me, first and foremost I need to get back into the team because the lads have done quite well.

"I know it's not going to be easy, but I am not afraid to work hard.

"It's very, very early now to even try look beyond myself just trying to get into the team really."

Towell was a key player in the Millers' promotion last season and with boss Paul Warne keeping most of the squad together it was an easy transition back into the squad.

The Irishman will be setting up home with his family in Sheffield and loves life at the club.

"It was weird but it was good that when I came back it felt like I had never left," he added.

"There are a couple of new faces player-wise but it is the same coaching staff and it is really the same team that won promotion.

"And I didn't have those first-day nerves where I had to make new friends, I knew all the lads already.

"It was very, very easy to settle back in so it was very nice. It was easy for my family as well."

Towell, who was an unused sub at Wigan before the international break, is hoping to force his way into Warne's plans for the clash with Frank Lampard's Derby on Saturday.

"I love football, I train really hard and I look after my body and I think I am really good professional," he said.

"I always feel like I am ready to play. I am ready to go and hopefully the gaffer can see that over the next few days and put me in."
