Rotherham United: Quality not quantity in Millers recruitment drive

Paul Warne has stressed Rotherham United will not be adding a heap of new signings ahead of their return to the Championship.

The Millers’ recruitment process is well under way as they look to strengthen before the start of the new season.

Warne has revealed the Millers have bids in for players, but wanted to keep their identities close to his chest.

The gaffer revealed: “We’ve got plenty of irons in the volcano and we’ve put a lot of bids out to clubs which will improve us.

“There’s nothing too exciting in terms of there’s nothing I can give you regarding names.

“We’re not going to sign a shedload of players. I think the lads are a close group and a really good group.

“We don’t need to overhaul the squad. We don’t want to bring someone in who isn’t right for us and will ruin the group.

“I appreciate we need to add and we’ll do that. We’re only going to bring in people who benefit the group and buy in to it.”

The Millers will dip into the loan market as well as adding a few shrewd signings to the squad.

Warne is keen on bringing Slovakian goalkeeper Marek Rodak back to AESSAL New York Stadium next term.

Youngster Rodak impressed during the play-off-winning campaign last season while on loan from Fulham.

With Fulham gaining promotion to the Premier League, with a trio of shot-stoppers ahead of him, a season in the Championship would suit him nicely.

Rotherham only have one recognised keeper at the club, young gun Laurence Bilboe, and the position is a priority for Warne this summer.

Talks over a Rodak return are understood to be progressing well and getting a deal agreed early would be a huge relief to Warne.

Under previous regimes, the club have brought in upwards of 10 players in the off season.

However, Warne insists the club will steer clear of signing players just to bolster the numbers.
