The 30-year-old was a key man in the closing stages of last season as the Millers secured Championship survival with an 11-match unbeaten run.

And now he can’t wait to get started under new boss Alan Stubbs.

“I’m ready to kick on,” he said.

“I’m very happy. I just wanted to get my future sorted out in the Championship.”

Wood completed the formalities today after a family break in Europe.

“It was straight-forward and I agreed it before I went away on holiday,” he revealed.

Meanwhile, former Rotherham favourite Kari Arnason has hit out at Cristiano Ronaldo after keeping the Portuguese superstar goalless at Euro 2016.

Arnason starred in central defence for Iceland as the minnows held Portugal to a 1-1 draw last night, sparking an outburst from the Real Madrid attacker who accused his opponents of negative tactics.

“What does he expect - for us to play like Barcelona against him?” Arnason, who now plays his club football for Malmo, said.

“He fannies about and dives around.

“Obviously we were the underdog. We played like the underdog and we were unlucky not to win the game.

“We didn’t pay any extra attention to Ronaldo. Obviously everyone knows how good he is so you have to know where he is at every given moment, but there was nothing in our game-plan to specifically close him down.

“We just knew we had to be close to him at every given moment and it worked perfectly.”

Iceland went behind to a Nani strike in the first half but struck back after the break through Birkir Bjarnason.

“It’s amazing,” Arnason added. “I mean, we knew we could do it. I think we were a bit unlucky not to steal the win at the end with (Alfred) Finnbogason’s chance.”

“The second half played into our hands. We didn’t have the ball much, but we were solid and we can always catch people on the counter.”
