The names of more than 100 players have landed on the desk of Alan Stubbs as the new manager looks to make his first signings for Rotherham United.

The 44-year-old, who has compiled a shortlist of targets, revealed the number of possible recruits pushed in the Millers’ direction has topped three figures.

Stubbs assumed the hot-seat at the Championship club only on June 2 and said: “Even in this short space of time, there have been potentially over 100 players who have been made known to us.”

The Millers have only 11 contracted players, so he faces a busy summer building a squad he believes can challenge for a place in the top 10.

“There will be permanent signings, loan signings and players who are currently free agents,” he said.

“We are looking right across the board. It won’t just be loans and free agents coming into the club. We are potentially looking at one or two players at clubs too.”

Stubbs wants to bring in new players as quickly as possible but is prepared to wait to make sure he lands the right men.

The former Hibernian boss trusts his eye for a player and won plaudits for his recruitment north of the border.

“We have made contact with a number of clubs in terms of loan signings and permanent signings,” he said. “It is a like a cat and mouse game now where we are waiting to see if there is anything in the enquiries that we have made to take the deals forward, or if we move on to our other targets that have been identified.

“It can be a lengthy process. We are going through lots of players, ticking them off and narrowing the names down.”

The 2016/17 league fixtures are unveiled at 9am tomorrow, with the draw for the first round of the EFL Cup, known last season as the Capital One Cup, taking place at 1pm.
