Rotherham United: Millers boss Redfearn rises above Halford tweets

Utility man Halford, thought to be the Millers’ highest earner, has been told he has no future at AESSEAL New York Stadium and has used his Twitter account to fire barbs at his boss and recently-departed No 2 Eric Black.

But Redfearn said: “We’re trying our best to get him fixed up. There is no malice in our decision. We’re trying to help so he can go and enjoy the rest of his career. I can’t do anything about what people put on social media. I don’t read things like that anyway. I’m not that interested. It’s not something I want to get drawn into.”

“There are players who don’t have a sight of the first team. We wish them well and hope they can get fixed up so they can continue their careers,” Redfearn added. “From my point of you, we’re trying to look after, and do the best by, the lads who are not in the picture, and that will continue to happen.”

Halford hinted in a tweet that Redfearn had publicised the fact the Championship club wanted him to leave without telling him to his face and taunted one fan about having 18 months left on his contract.

“Greg had a meeting with Paul Douglas (chief executive officer) and the situation was explained to him,” Redfearn revealed. “Some players take it well and go and get on with their business, like Jordan Bowery (now with Oxford United), and hopefully everybody gets what they need out of it.
