The Millers boss was playing in a Tickhill CC dads and lads match the day after his League One side had beaten Blackpool 1-0 on Saturday to secure fourth place and book a play-off semi-final date with Scunthorpe United.

Warne had said: “If the ball is on line and full length, I’m out. Nailed on, I am out, Mate. But anything that is not on the wicket, I am slogging. I’m a good slogger. Hit big, miss big.

“I could hit 30 or 40 tomorrow in 10 deliveries. But anything on line and length, and the bat is under the arm and I’m walking back in.”

Warne and son Mack were on the winning side, 14-year-old Mack starring with an unbeaten 29.

His dad was out for 12 after hitting one boundary.

Bowled. Middle stump.
