Rotherham United: Jackett still seeking Millers solution

A 3-0 defeat at Derby County saw the gap between the bottom-placed Millers and a place of Championship safety stretch to nine points.

Jackett’s men began brightly at the iPro Stadium before goals in the 15th and 19th minutes from Tom Ince and Darren Bent respectively put the home side in control, and the Rams wrapped up proceedings after the interval with Ince’s second.

“We are still struggling to find a defensive set-up that can keep us competitive,” Jackett said.

“We started the game pretty well. We had a lot of it, we had the ball and made inroads, but then we gave two very poor goals away on the break when we were in good positions.

“The second half was similar. We were playing in and around their box and then gave away a very, very poor third goal.”

Millers goalkeeper Lee Camp saved a penalty in each half from Ince, although Ince put the rebound away after his first spot-kick.

Jackett, who has been in charge for the last four games, played Greg Halford at centre-half and paired Tom Adeyemi and Jake Forster-Caskey together as defensive midfielders in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

“The outstanding statistic, which is disappointing again, is the ‘goals against’ column,” the manager said. “It’s frustrating when you lose the game.

“The better side won. I can’t say that wasn’t the case.”
