Rotherham United: Green targets away improvement for Millers

The Millers have won three of their last four matches at AESSEAL New York Stadium, but haven’t earned a point on their travels since at 1-0 victory at Leeds United back in November.

They travel to Cardiff City this weekend, and Green said: “The big thing is to sort out our away form, starting on Saturday.”

Rotherham are one spot above the relegation places and Green is adamant that Neil Redfearn’s men can survive another season in the second tier.

“There is confidence in the camp that we can stay away from the bottom three,” he said. “We have been down there and come out of it with some good results recently against teams like Hull City and Brighton.

“We have to carry on that momentum. A couple of wins and you are out of it, a couple of losses and you are back in it.”

The Millers had climbed to 20th place after New York successes over the Tigers and Seagulls to go with the Boxing-Day triumph over Bolton Wanderers, but slipped to 21st with Saturday’s defeat against QPR.

Green was named man of the match after Rotherham had dominated the first half only to concede three goals after the break, and the 32-year-old says he and teammates must put the loss straight behind them.

“The lads were disappointed, but we will get back at it,” he said. “The gaffer said he was pleased with the first-half performance against QPR and couldn’t understand how the result came about after the way we played.”

Rotherham are awaiting international clearance from the Argentine FA for striker Luciano Becchio and are looking strengthen their midfield this week.

They are confident the go-ahead for Becchio will arrive before the clash at the City of Cardiff Stadium.

The 32-year-old free agent has already passed a medical and agreed personal terms on a deal expected to run until the end of the season.

Business is beginning to speed up in the January transfer window, and yesterday Bristol City, behind the Millers on goal difference, added midfielder Ben Gladwin and defender Alex Pearce to their ranks in loan deals with QPR and Derby County respectively.

Meanwhile, there is interest from other sides in left-back Harry Toffolo whose Millers loan spell ended earlier this week. Parent club Norwich City have yet to decide whether to allow the 20-year-old to leave on a temporary basis again.
