The midfielder has terminated his contract with the Millers by mutual consent and is now free to find another club.

Maguire, aged 27, arrived at AESSEAL New York Stadium in the summer after leaving Sheffield Wednesday but made only six Championship starts and eight substitute appearances.

He had a loan spell at promotion-chasing Oxford in December and January and they are keen to see him return.

"We'd like to thank Chris for his efforts and wish him well in the future," said a Rotherham United statement.

Meanwhile, Charlton Atheltic are believed to have enquired about striker Jonson Clarke-Harris, but talk of a £1.5 million bid is well wide of the mark.

The Millers want to keep Clarke-Harris, who was their record signing in August 2014 and who has scored six goals this season.
