Rotherham United breeze to wins over Sheffield FC and Stocksbridge Park Steels

Rotherham gave manager Paul Warne plenty to smile about as both of his sides won their friendly fixtures against Non-League opposition.

Warne and first team coach Matt Hamshaw oversaw a 3-0 win away Sheffield FC.

Michael Smith bagged a brace and David Ball was also on target for the Millers who are unbeaten in pre-season.

And to cap a good night another Millers side managed by coaches Richie Barker and Mike Pollitt triumphed 4-1 at Stocksbridge Park Steels.

New signing Kyle Vassell bagged a hat-trick and missed a penalty, with substitute Akeem Hinds was on the scoresheet.

Warne’s squad started pre-season with a 3-1 away win over Parkgate FC of the Northern Counties East League Division One. They followed that win with a 0-0 draw against local side SKU Amstetten in the first of two friendly fixtures on their week-long pre-season trip to Austria.

Smith was on target on Saturday as the Millers edged SC Wiender Neustadt.

Boss Warne, who ran the rule over an unnamed triallist against Sheffield FC, reflected: “We’re judging the players all the time, but at the end of this week we’ll have a good feel of where we’re at.

“Hopefully we’ll have another couple of bodies in, but only if they’re right for the club.
