Rotherham Titans set for reunion with old boy Max Argyle in Jersey clash

Flanker Argyle joined Rotherham in the summer of 2013 from the Dore Moor club and spent three seasons at the Titans, playing in more than 40 games, before moving to Jersey earlier this year.

Since he switched Championship sides, Argyle has appeared in seven of the eight league matches Jersey have played and he could be joined in the Reds’ squad by two other ex- Rotherham players-centre Jordan Davies and prop Mark Tampin - who also joined Jersey last summer.

Having suffered a heavy defeat at Ealing Ttrailfinders two weeks ago, Rotherham will be keen to recover but will need to show much more of a threat in attack than they have done so far in the Championship.

According to the latest figures, the Titans have scored only 20 tries in eight league contests - the second lowest number and only bottom team, Richmond with 12, have scored fewer.

Rotherham, tenth in the league, also need to improve their defence; having let in eight tries at Ealing, they must tackle effectively and swiftly if they are to climb up the league.

The Titans have conceded 224 points - only Richmond (277) and London Scottish (255) have let in more.

On a happier note, Titans fly half Will Robinson, whose goal kicking is among the most accurate in the league, is the third highest points scorer on 68, made up of 12 conversions, 13 penalties and one try.

Given that Rotherham and Jersey have identical records in the league before Saturday’s game with three wins in eight games, a close match can be predicted.

Sadly from their point of view, the Titans will be without their two best, attacking players, backs Will Thomas (ankle) and Will Goodwin (back), who were both injured at Ealing.

However, coach Justin Burnell is hopeful that some of the six Gloucester players who are dual registered will be available.
