Rotherham Titans: Jones could name new half back duo for B&I Cup test

Rotherham Titans head coach Mark Jones is considering opting for a new half back partnership as he looks to improve his side’s fortunes in the British and Irish Cup tie at Moseley.

After consecutive Championship defeats, Jones could be tempted to select Dan White and Will Goodwin at scrum half and fly half respectively for the clash with the Birmingham outfit.

“Will Goodwin is a really promising player and the more he plays the better he will get,” Jones said.

“I hope he’ll be with us next season.

“Dan also needs game time, as does centre Jack Haynes.”

Should Haynes start, it would be only his fourth game since he joined in the summer from Oxfordshire club Chinnor.

He impressed in a try scoring appearance in the comfortable win over Ealing Trailfinders in the B&I Cup and also performed well in Championship appearances against Doncaster and Cornish Pirates.

Jones is expecting a tough test from Moseley. He said: “They’re not nice opponents and are a difficult side.

“Moseley are dogged and persevere right to the end. They are a much better team than their position in the Championship table suggests.

“They have pace in the back three and are well coached by Kevin Maggs.”

Jones expects to pick from the same squad which lost at London Scottish last weekend.

But fly half James McKinney continues his tentative return from injury and may be left behind in order to maximise his recovery time.

One player almost certain to be involved is Canadian forward Kyle Gilmour who is also in need of game time after not being used against Scottish last weekend.

Hosts Moseley – like the Titans – have one win and one defeat so far in the B&I Cup, beating Ealing 37-31 and losing 55-12 to Leinster A.
