Fly half James McKinney has suffered another bad injury; this time a damaged shoulder which means he’s unlikely to play again this season. McKinney was hurt at the weekend against Ealing. It’s a blow to a side fighting to avoid relegation.

Burnell, though, is fortunate that in McKinney’s absence he has two other talented number 10s available: Ross Jones and Will Goodwin, one of whom will start against Bedford at Clifton Lane and take on goal kicking duties.

Also unlikely to play again this season is Canadian Kyle Gilmour. The flanker suffered facial injuries while he was training with the Canada squad and it’s thought he won’t be returning to Rotherham.

However, experienced forward Barney Maddison, has undergone a successful knee operation and is available for selection.

As should his partner in the pack, club skipper Tom Holmes, whose lower back injury is making a rapid recovery.

Meanwhile, it’s been confirmed that winger Jack Hayes, who was banned for three games by an RFU disciplinary hearing following a dangerous tackle against Bristol earlier this month, is available for selection again after this Saturday and will be considered for a place in the squad to face London Welsh next weekend.
