Rotherham Titans aiming for two new signings

The Titans, who return to action in the British and Irish Cup against Ealing Trailfinders on Saturday at Clifton Lane, need to strengthen their pack following the latest injuries to second row forwards Toby Salmon and George Oram who are both out with damaged thumbs.

“We’ve spoken to a couple of players we are interested in because we need replacements and we hope to conclude the paper work soon,” says Rotherham coach Mark Jones.

Meanwhile, Jones is both relieved and delighted that four of his players who’ve been out for many weeks are fully fit and ready to resume playing on Saturday against Ealing in the B and I Cup, a competition in which that Rotherham have no chance of making any further progress.

Recent defeats by Moseley have stopped them reaching the quarter finals, but now that centre Jordan Davies and prop Toby Williams and hooker Darran Harris are over their injuries, the Titans at last have something to smile about.

All three will be involved against Ealing and as Jones says the B and I Cup now has an important role to play as regards the long term:

“These two games against Ealing and then Leinster A give us the opportunity to build confidence. Our concentration is 100 per cent on the performance and not necessarily the results because if we play well, we can take that into the vital Championship games that are coming up.

“Our morale is high and the boys have trained really well. Since the Cornish Pirates game a fortnight ago, we’ve concentrated on improving on our set-piece because the scrum and line out have not been firing.

“We also need to be far more accurate in our kicking game which let us down against Pirates. It’s a big boost for us that Davies, Williams and Harris are back because we have missed them.”

It’s also expected that centre Joel Gill, who has recently been on loan at Hull Ionians in National One, will be involved on Saturday, another timely boost for the Titans as they start preparing for the resumption of the Championship against top sides Doncaster Knights and Bristol at the end of this month and the beginning of February respectively.
