Rotherham teenager meets Princess Anne at Buckingham Palace

A Rotherham teenager who gave first aid to a 10-year-old after a crash was invited to Buckingham Palace in recognition of her efforts.

Georgia Stockwell aged 17, from Whiston, met Princes Anne at the ceremony, where St John Ambulance volunteers were honoured.

The Brinsworth Academy sixth form student, who hopes to become a doctor, has spent three years learning first aid as a St John Ambulance cadet.

She put her skills to the test when she was returning home from the London Marathon in April, where she had treated runners for dehydration and cramp, and she spotted the aftermath of crash in Whiston.

Georgia dialled 999 and helped the casualties until emergency services arrived.

She said: “We were tired after the Marathon – but the adrenalin kicked in and I got on with it. I think people without first aid knowledge might not have stopped in case they made things worse.”
