A stalker has been jailed after a racially-aggravated attack on his ex-girlfriend which saw him beat her with a kitchen drawer.

Zubear Zaman, 23, of Warwick Street, Moorgate, Rotherham, sent his ex-partner threatening messages, made phone calls to her and turned up at her house in Eastwood during a campaign of intimidation lasting over a year.

On November 13 last year, he got inside the woman’s house and beat her with a kitchen drawer while making derogatory comments.

Zaman appeared before Sheffield Crown Court on Tuesday, August 11, and pleaded guilty to racially aggravated assault and stalking.

He was jailed for 15 months.

He was also sentenced to three months in prison, to run concurrently, for breaching a suspended sentence handed to him last year.

Detective Constable Craig Hayward investigating said: “Zaman’s victim was subjected to verbal, physical and psychological abuse for over 12 months and the courage shown by her throughout this case is commendable.

“We remain absolutely committed to working alongside our partner agencies to support victims of domestic abuse.”

Zaman is also subject to a restraining order for five years to prevent him from contacting the victim.
