Mrs Senior is being recognised for services to child protection in Rotherham, where she repeatedly raised concerns about girls being groomed and forced into prostitution, while she worked for the Risky Business youth service in the town.

As manager of the youth project, which was set up to work with vulnerable teens, she kept notes and details of the perpetrators of attacks on girls and passed information on to the authorities but claimed nothing was done.

Frustrated at the lack of action, she became a whistleblower and helped make the scale of the child sexual exploitation scandal in the town public.

An independent report estimated that around 1,400 girls were abused by men of largely Pakistani heritage between 1997 and 2013 while those in authority turned a blind eye.

Mrs Senior, who is now a Rotherham councillor, will receive her MBE at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.
