A Rotherham rape suspect has been released on bail after being quizzed by officers from the National Crime Agency.

The man was arrested in Rotherham yesterday morning on suspicion of rape, indecent assault and administering drugs to obtain or facilitate intercourse.

The alleged victim was a girl under the age of 16.

Officers made the arrest as part of Operation Stovewood, an independent investigation into child sexual exploitation and abuse in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013.

An independent report found that 1,400 children were abused over the 16 year period while authorities failed to act.

So far 15 arrests have been made as part of the operation.
