The week was launched with a Shakespeare dressing-up day when the school was overrun with witches, fairies, Tudor ladies and gentlemen and Roman emperors.

A Shakespeare-themed treasure hunt quiz was run for Key Stage Two pupils throughout the week to encourage children to find out facts about the famous script writer.

Additionally, the children took part in a sponsored readathon, designed to encourage the children to read a wide variety of texts and a very well attended book fair was also held in school.

Lessons throughout the week were a hive of activity, with Tudor bread, soup and biscuits being made and sampled, plays acted out, potions made, Globe theatres constructed, Shakespeare biographies written and generally a lot of Shakespeare-themed fun.

The week was put together by Mrs Chloe Virr, the English cluster co-ordinator.

“The works of Shakespeare are always thought to be very daunting but the reality is that, with the help of some great resources such as the animated tales, the stories are really accessible for children of all ages,” she said.

“The pupils and staff have really enjoyed throwing themselves into the learning this week and it is events such as these that we hope will last long in the memories of the children.”

The learning continued at home where the children were invited to make a ‘book in a box’ – a decorated box to represent their favourite book.

The entries were all of a very high standard and the judges had a very difficult task in selecting the winners.
