Mum Pat Gardiner, aged 62, from Greasbrough, Rotherham, is urging all women to make sure they are up to date with their breast screening appointments after seeing the impact having breast cancer had on her close family and friends.

Pat attended a routine mammogram appointment at Rotherham Hospital in April 2015.

Despite showing no signs or symptoms, a small cancerous lump was detected.

Shortly after her appointment she underwent surgery and now has the all clear.

Pat said: “If it wasn’t for breast screening, the cancer wouldn’t have been detected so early and the treatment process wouldn’t have been so quick, which saved me and my family a lot of worry.

“Thanks to breast screening I now have many more Mother’s Days to look forward to spending with my daughter.”

Screening is available to women aged 50 to 70 years.
